بنى مهندسو هيرودس هنا مرفأً عميق المياه على ساحل مفتوح بلا خليج طبيعي، بإغراق خرسانة هيدروليكية في البحر، وهي تقنية رومانية تتماسك تحت الماء، ومن أعظم إنجازات الهندسة في العالم القديم. وما زال المسرح قائماً وما زال يُستعمل للحفلات. ونصف المرفأ اليوم تحت الماء ويمكنك الغوص فوق كتله. أما القناة فتمتد على الشاطئ شمال الموقع، قوساً بعد قوس، والبحر في جهة والرمل متراكم عليها في الجهة الأخرى.
Herod's engineers built a deep-water harbour here on an open coast with no natural bay, by sinking hydraulic concrete into the sea — a Roman technology that sets underwater, and one of the great engineering feats of the ancient world. The theatre still stands and is still used for concerts. Half the harbour is now underwater and you can snorkel over the blocks. The aqueduct runs along the beach north of the site, arch after arch, with the sea on one side and sand drifted up against it on the other.
