من مؤسسي التصوير الفلسطيني الحديث. ولوحته سنة ١٩٧٣ لرجل مسنّ يحمل القدس على ظهره صارت أكثر الصور الفلسطينية استنساخاً في جيلها، طُبعت ملصقات في البيوت من عمّان إلى سانتياغو. وفي الانتفاضة الأولى قاطع هو وفنانون آخرون المواد الفنية الإسرائيلية تماماً وعملوا بالطين والحناء والقش وثفل القهوة، وهو قرار غيّر شكل عمله إلى اليوم.
One of the founders of modern Palestinian painting. His 1973 canvas of an old man carrying Jerusalem on his back became the most reproduced Palestinian image of its generation, printed on posters in homes from Amman to Santiago. During the first intifada he and other artists boycotted Israeli art materials entirely and worked instead in mud, henna, straw and coffee grounds — a decision that changed how his work looks to this day.
